A Taste of The Old World

For my sib's birthday we went to an Eritrean and Ethipoian Restaurant. It's my second time to try their food but this experience was better because the food was more delicious and we were the only ones in the restaurant! The server was very kind to us and explained the dishes and how to eat it. We ate at Ziada, the restaurant like the previous one we've been to, is painted in warm colorful shades such as oranges, greens, and reds. From outside the place looks really tiny but once you go inside, it's very spacious.

We ordered the Qulwa which is beef cooked with a variety spices and served with injera, the bread.
We also ordered the veggie platter called Bebe'ainetu.

The veggie platter:

The Qulwa (beef) together with the veggie platter:

The injera, the bread used to dip and wrap the viand in. The injera is very soft and quite salty but when dipped into another dish, it brings out the flavors of each viand:

It was so delicious but not very filling. The server told us that two would be enough but with our appetites, that wouldn't do! It somehow felt like an appetizer so I suggest that if you're four people dining, you should get at least three platters. The food's taste isn't very alien to our own, with its mixture of spices and meat. I was familiar with some of the ingredients and even with the taste. I even called one veggie "laing" because it tasted like one of Bicol's specialties. There's also mongo and garbanzos. I'm even planning on grabbing a take out one of these days and partnering it with rice!

You should try Ethiopian and Eritrean Cuisine!
